I am the Way, the Truth and the Life - Jesus

From Rev Enosa Auva'a's Desk 28th October 2022

Welcome, and greetings church family,

From all accounts there are three world sporting championship events happening at the moment: World Rugby League in England, World T20 Cricket in Australia and the Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. What a festival of sports.

Of course, as a loyal New Zealander, I’m cheering on our New Zealand-Aotearoa teams all the way to the finals. Wouldn’t that be a celebration - to be world champions in all three major sports- go the kiwis!!!

However, the reality is when all is done and dusted there will only be one winner. This of course is upsetting and disappointing for supporters and teams but once again you hope again for the next three years when you will repeat the same experience.

The bible also speaks of a far more important game of life where everyone can participate and will all receive the ultimate prize of being in the Kingdom of God. This was prophesied and talked about by, Isaiah (35:1-4,8-10 & 40:9-11 & 52:7-10) Jeremiah (23:3-4), and Jesus the Messiah, who talked about this in his conversation with a Jewish scholar called Nicodemus and how to enter the kingdom of God.

John 3:1-7, 16

1. Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3. Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” 4.“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” 5. Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’"

16. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Philippians 3:14

14. "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

I encourage you to keep up the training as disciples of Jesus just as the athletes of these world games have demonstrated with their strengths and fitness prowess. God is with you (Immanuel). He will be your provider, your resting place, your safe place as we discovered in Part 1 AND 2 of Psalm 91- The God of refuge.
