Soul of the City

From Rev Enosa Auva'a's Desk 1 July 2022

As someone who is an avid sports fan I often come across symbolism in words or graphics with a message about God. One I see often is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I must admit when I see it referenced to boxing, I wonder how the boxers feel when they land or receive a punch or a jab from an opponent and in some situations knock them out prematurely ending the contest.

For me this verse is about my faith in the Lord and my need to continually uphold that before God. I believe the strength of my faith starts and ends with God, nothing else, and it is His power and strength that carries me daily. As Christians we need to surrender to the strength that God provides. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “His strength is made perfect in our weakness”.

We can rest in the comfort that God will provide the strength we need when facing troubles of many kinds in our journey of faith. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” causes me to look to Jesus who will strengthen me in all situations I encounter in life until he returns. May your faith be strengthened in whatever you are facing this week as you ponder on this scripture? More faith strengthening scriptures- enjoy: Psalm 9:9-10 & Mark 9:23.

Have a great week! Blessings,

Mercy, love, and peace be yours in abundance
