Return to China
March to September 2008
Laurie Sanders has regularly been doing six months volunteer work in Central China since 1998. He has been directly involved with Administration, Project Planning and Management, Financial work, Academic work, Building Renovation, International Communications and much more as required.
On 9th March 2008 Laurie returned to China to work as International Communications Officer in the Western-run Caring For China's Children Health Services Base, (like a mini Hospital), in Xian, Shaanxi Province, right in the heart of Central China. There CFCC cares for some 350 Chinese Orphans and their associated medical needs.
This work involves carrying out medical photography, planning and overseeing trips by visiting medical professionals and other people supporting the work, organising their programs, accommodation, logistics of travel, etc as they contribute to the healthcare of the children in the 3 orphanages. There will also be opportunities to have direct input into the lives of some of the 350 children. Quite a few of these will be brought to our medical base for some form of Intensive Care over 6 months.

Additionally there is a new Rural Poverty Program which started up - in 2006. As a result, CFCC is now visiting a nearby County of 60,000 people - just 2 hours away from Xian. The people there are largely poor and many are unable to afford even basic medical care - so we are assisting with medical work in run-down clinics and training 70 non-qualified (barefoot) doctors over two years to improve the health of women and children particularly. The more elderly also receive medical care. We do our best to make this care free to all.
On every visit, we set up desks in the street and medically assess people at no cost. We also work from Chinese clinics, where they are available. Minor surgeries are carried out where possible and other major work is referred to a nearby Chinese Hospital where we monitor the person and recommend or provide appropriate treatment.
Laurie commends this lifesaving work to you as an example of Practical Christianity at work - saving lives in more ways than one - bring healing and hope through the prayerful and financial support of others. You may wish to be part of this work in other ways.
