Who Are Our Counsellors?
Vicky Hegarty (B. Couns.)
Vicky currently works at St Peters as a part time counsellor. She has recently completed a Bachelor of Counselling in 2006. She lives in Te Puna with her husband and three children.
Linda Parnell (B. Couns.)
Linda works at St Peters two days a week, and she completed her Bachelor of Counselling in 2005. She is married with an adult family, and grandchildren, and she is a committed Christian.
What is Counselling?

Counselling is a way for you to discuss your problems or concerns in a safe, non-judgmental setting

Counselling can help you grow in understanding with yourself and others

Counselling encourages you to openly explore options in the areas you want to change in your life

Counselling can assist you to begin to deal with anxiety, depression, grief, anger and stress related issues

Counselling respects your beliefs, values and culture. The counsellors will value your views, even if they differ from theirs.
What Do I Need To Know?

Counselling at St Peters is completely free of charge, though you may choose to make a donation to St Peters Care and Counselling.

Sessions take around 60 minutes, though first sessions may take longer. Notes are taken during the session, which are un-named for your protection. You are entitled to see them at any time and you may take a copy of them if you wish. Notes are kept in a locked file.

What you tell the counsellors is confidential, and is not passed on to others, unless they are seriously concerned for your safety of the safety of others.

On occasion, the counsellors may ask you for your consent to video or tape a session for supervision requirements. Tapes will be erased after use.

If the counsellors don't feel competent to help with your issue, they will discuss it with you, and most likely refer you to someone else. You are also free to terminate your counselling at anytime, without a reason.
